President's Update August-September, 2016

As your president, I have the responsibility of keeping current on national issues that need attention from our affiliate. We have several right now that need immediate action. We need to get comments to the Department of Justice regarding their supplemental advanced notice of proposed Rulemaking on web accessibility. Comments must be submitted by October 7. The web address is www.regulations.gov.

A New NFB Idaho Chapter In Pocatello

by Ramona Walhof A new chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Idaho, the largest and most active organization of the blind in this State,  was started in Bannock County Saturday, September 10.

President's Update Juine and July 2016

2017 NFB Idaho ConventionOur 2017 state convention will be held March 24-25 at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, 6300 Vista Ave in Boise. Our 2015 convention was held in this location, which, at the time, was the Boise Hotel and Convention Center. All the remodeling has been completed and I believe this location will meet our needs. I have signed the contract.

2016 NFB National Convention Live Stream Links and Schedule

June 30 to July 5, 2016The National Federation of the Blind--the voice of the nation's blind--will be once again streaming portions of its annual convention over the Internet.  The NFB National Convention is the largest gathering of the blind anywhere in the world.  If you cannot be in Orlando, Florida, to catch the excitement in person, you can listen to portions of the convention via the Internet.

President's Update for May 2016

May began with the Idaho Gives campaign on May 5. NFBI received donations of nearly $200.00, which is the most we have ever received from this campaign. Even though May 5 was emphasized as a day for Idahoans to support their favorite charities, donations can be made throughout the year. We also received a small check from Amazon Smiles.

ED Smart Offers Guide for College Students with Disabilities

Recently ED Smart chief editor, Tyson Stevens, reached out to NFBI president Dana Aard and requested that we make available a guide that they produced for college students with disabilities. The guide is titled, "Winning in College: A Guide for Students with Disibilities." We have provided a portion of this guide below with a link to the entire guide at the bottom of this post.
