Colleen is at the Roman colosseum

My husband and I recently attempted to book a 15 day hiking trip called Two Worlds of Peru, through a non-profit organization called Road Scholar. However, they denied my booking because, according to their terms of agreement, I would need assistance. I never requested their assistance.

Over the course of our many conversations, they attempted to dissuade me, and move me toward selecting a different tour that was less physically strenuous. I refused this, because I felt that I was in good physical condition. According to their website, Two Worlds of Peru covers about two miles per day, over the course of three to five hours. I exercise this same distance on my treadmill five or six days a week, and it only takes about 30 minutes.

Reflecting on my interactions with Road Scholar, they were clearly coming up with any reason they could to deny me this opportunity. Road Scholar claims to reasonably accommodate people with disabilities, but instead they deny us because of their misconceptions of our capabilities. This company’s attitude is so disappointing.
